Free In-Home Window Blind Consultations in Bellingham
Questions? Answers from our team at Bindi and Bird.
A lot of people shopping for window blinds in Bellingham have never done it before, or it’s been so long it might as well be the first time. There’s a lot to figure out – what brands are worth it, how much it costs, whether to go custom or buy something off the shelf.
We’re Bindi and Bird, a locally owned woman owned window treatment store in Bellingham. Julie and Shanda have been helping homeowners and businesses across Whatcom and Skagit County for years. This is what we know.

Starting Out
Where’s a good place to buy window blinds in Bellingham?
We’d point you to a local store where you can see the products in person and talk to someone who knows them well. At Bindi and Bird we have a showroom right here in Bellingham where you can touch the fabrics, see how different shades operate, and get a real sense of what you’re buying before committing to anything. We also do free in-home consultations, so if it’s easier, we come to you and bring samples along.
The brands we carry include Hunter Douglas, Lafayette, Norman, Graber and A and I. We’ll help you figure out which one makes sense for your home and your budget.
How does the whole process work?
We start with a consultation, either at our showroom or your home. We look at your windows, understand how each room gets used, and recommend products that actually fit your space. Then we take measurements, place the order, and schedule installation once everything arrives. On installation day our team handles it all, and we make sure every blind and shade is operating correctly.
Do I really need a professional to measure and install?
You don’t have to, but a lot of people who’ve tried the DIY route once end up calling us the second time around. A bad measurement means you’re paying for a blind that doesn’t fit. Installation sounds straightforward until you’re dealing with an odd-shaped window, a heavy shade, or a motorized system that needs to be programmed. We do it every day and we get it right the first time, which tends to save people money in the long run.
Where in Bellingham and Whatcom County do you serve?
All of it. Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Blaine, Birch Bay, Semiahmoo, Sudden Valley, Lummi Island located in Whatcom County we’ll come to you. We also cover all of Skagit County including Anacortes, Mount Vernon, Burlington, and La Conner, and we serve communities further south into Snohomish County as well. See the full list here.
Products and Brands
What brands do you carry?
We carry Hunter Douglas, Lafayette, Norman, and Graber. Hunter Douglas is probably the most recognized name in window treatments their products are well engineered and built to last. Lafayette is our go-to for beautiful drapery and soft treatments. Norman makes excellent shutters and blinds. Graber offers a wide range of styles and is great value for the quality. We’ll point you toward the right one based on what you’re trying to accomplish.
What kinds of window treatments do you carry?
The full range. Blinds, roller shades, solar shades, cellular shades, Roman shades, banded shades, shutters, drapery, curtains, and motorized systems. We also carry awnings and outdoor shades for patios and decks. Most people come in thinking they want blinds and leave with something they hadn’t considered not because we push it, but because seeing the options in person changes things.
What about motorized blinds? Is that worth it?
For the right windows, absolutely. Hunter Douglas PowerView lets you control everything by app, remote, or voice, and you can set schedules so your shades adjust automatically throughout the day. It sounds like a luxury but once you have it on a big picture window or a hard-to-reach skylight, it’s hard to imagine going back. We can show you how it works in our Bellingham store.
Not sure what you need? That’s completely normal. Come see us at our showroom or let us come to you.
Cost and Value
Is it worth spending more on custom versus buying something at the hardware store?
For a single window in a utility room, off-the-shelf is probably fine. For anywhere you actually live and spend time, custom is worth it. The fit is better, the materials last longer, and they look noticeably different. Most of our customers who’ve had both say the difference is obvious.
Are consultations really free?
Yes, always. We come to your home, bring samples, take a look at your windows, and talk through options at no cost and with no obligation. It’s just how we do business. We’d rather spend an hour helping you make a good decision than be in a rush.

Taking Care of Your Blinds
How often should I clean my window blinds?
A light dusting every few weeks keeps most blinds in good shape. Fabric shades do well with occasional vacuuming using a brush attachment. For a deeper clean, most products can be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth. We give specific care instructions for whatever product you choose at installation and different materials have different needs and we want yours to last.
How long do custom window blinds actually last?
A good set of custom blinds or shades should last 10 to 20 years with normal use. Hunter Douglas in particular builds products with that longevity in mind and the fabrics resist fading, the lift systems are rated for thousands of cycles, and their warranty reflects that. The difference in lifespan between a quality custom product and a big box blind is significant. It’s one of the main reasons people switch.
What if something needs to be repaired down the road?
We stand behind what we sell. If something isn’t working right we want to know about it and we’ll make it right. Hunter Douglas also backs their products with one of the strongest warranties in the industry. You’re not on your own after installation.
